Aftershocks included a 5.7 magnitude at 1:04 pm, at a depth of 6 km, 10km from Christchurch. Per Sky News New Zealand, residents in Christchurch Centre expressed that this quake was much worse than last year’s.
Occurring on a busy Tuesday at lunchtime, many more were hurt, and approximately 75 are dead so far.
Approximately 400 are missing, but how many are trapped in buildings is not known. Rescue dogs are searching throughout the city for survivors.
The Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, declared a national state of emergency. Residents were ordered to evacuate the city centre with thousands spending the night in tents and makeshift shelters. Their drinking water supply has been declared as compromised and drinking water is needed.
According to a Canadian from Toronto, Canada, “The noise was astounding. Everything that could fall down, did fall down.”
As expressed by Prime Minister Key, and as reported by TVNZ, “Today all New Zealanders grieve for you Christchurch.” This sentiment is also felt by many others throughout the world.

Woah. Saw the pictures devastating. My thoughts go out to all the families who lost people oin the quake couldn’t imagine what it musve been like. Governments be warned its gona get worse its not normal for 2 big earthquakes in such a short time. Heed my warning there’s worse to come and my dearest condolences go out to all the victims of this attrosity
